TMJ / Jaw pain Treatment
Symptoms of temporomandibular disorder, or TMJ, include pain around your jaw and a clicking or grinding noise when you move your jaw. Here at the Hertfordshire Centre for Dentistry we tailor treatment for TMJ disorders to each individual and what may be causing the issue.
Our prosthodontists will examine your teeth, including tooth wear, restorations and position, your gums health and your bite and bite movements. We will also make note of any symptoms that you are currently experiencing.
Treatments often starts with a hard bite guard (known as a Michigan splint) to allow your jaw and teeth to find a more balanced and natural position. Once this is achieved, and your symptoms have resolved, a more definitive treatment can be completed for a more permanent solution. This can include orthodontics (teeth straightening), building up, restoring the teeth or a combination of these.
