Sleepwell
The ‘Sleepwell’ is designed with internal splint fixing, which allows the lips to close around the device to prevent dryness and/or excess salivation associated with other splints.The benefits include the internal fixings which make Sleepwell comfortable for the patient. It is a soft, slim-lined 2 piece device which allows full lateral movement which means it is unlikely that the appliance will become dislodged.
Silensor
The Silensor is upper and lower hard splints, with a soft inner lining for patient comfort and is an alternative to the ‘sleepwell’. The bi-laminate guards are connected using two interchangeable plastic arms to advance the mandible and maintain the patient’s airway.
Dorsal
The Dorsal appliance is a two-piece device that consists of upper and lower splints. The lower splint has two adjustment screws that take effect on the fin-shaped acrylic arms of the upper splint. The device allows the patient to advance the mandible in small increments with the use of an appliance key to activate the screws.
Negus
The Negus is a one-piece, non-adjustable, appliance that can be created in various materials. The appliance is set with the mandible in a protruded position to maintain the airway and prevent it from dropping back during sleep to obstruct the airway.

Snoring and obstructive sleep apnoea can prevent you and your partner from having a restful night’s sleep. At Hertfordshire Centre for Dentistry we have dentists who are trained in providing a variety of custom made anti-snoring devices that can greatly reduce snoring and adverse health effects of sleep apnoea, such as raised blood pressure, increased risk of stroke and diabetes.
One of the reasons snoring occurs is when the soft tissue at the back of the throat vibrates while breathing during sleep. If this is a recurring problem ask your dentist about an anti-snoring device. These can be custom-made to fit easily and comfortably in your mouth and are adjustable to fit your jaw position. These appliances help to prevent snoring and let you enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep.
Generally the devices are quite simple and work by positioning the jaw forward and moving the tongue along with it. In this new position the tongue does not have the tendency to fall back into the throat and so allows the air to move freely, thus reducing or eliminating the incidence of snoring.
