Periodontics and Gums

Periodontics is the branch of dentistry that focuses on the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of gum disease. Gum disease can develop from a build-up of plaque on the teeth and gums. Bacteria within this plaque can irritate the gums, causing redness, swelling and bleeding. If this early stage of gum disease (known as gingivitis) is not treated, it can lead to periodontitis, a more serious condition that can affect the gum and underlying bone.

Healthy teeth need healthy gums and if left untreated gum disease can cause teeth loss. At Hertfordshire Centre for Dentistry we can help you achieve healthy gums through proper treatment and care. We have talented specialists in periodontics on our team.
