Fixed Braces
Fixed braces are attached on the outside of your teeth and are fixed until your treatment is complete and they are removed. They are a very efficient way of correcting the alignment of your teeth and your bite. They are suitable for correcting most orthodontic cases.
Fixed braces come in a variety of appearances. As well as traditional metal fixed braces, we offer tooth-coloured braces which are an aesthetic option as they are much less visible than metal brackets. There are also gold-coloured braces, often known as ‘champagne braces’.
Self-ligating braces by Damon are fixed appliances that instead of using brackets that are regularly tightened and adjusted they use a sliding mechanism that attaches wires to the brackets to move teeth naturally as the teeth realign.

Frequently Asked Questions
With all methods of straightening your teeth you will need to see your orthodontist regularly so we can adjust your brace. Please also keep seeing your general dentist for regular check-ups and your hygienist if you have been advised to see one.
You will need to be very careful and thorough with brushing your teeth and brace and we will advise you on the best way to do this. You will have to be careful with eating – either removing clear aligners before eating or avoiding any foods that are too hard or chewy with fixed braces. You will also feel when the braces are tightened – we will advise you on the best way to help this.
For the first 4-5 days after your appliances have been fitted, and for a day or two each time they are adjusted, you may experience some discomfort. The level of discomfort varies quite a bit from individual to individual. In general, the teeth may feel a little sore and tender to biting pressure. Painkillers such the ones you would normally take for headaches would take care of any that may be experienced for the first few days.
Parts of the brace may rub on the lips, cheeks or tongue. You can apply orthodontic wax on the bracket that is rubbing against your inner cheeks or lips. This acts as a cushion, keeping your lip or cheek away from the brace components.
After your treatment you will need retainers to keep your teeth in the finished position.
