Orthodontics is the specialist branch of dentistry concerned with diagnosing and managing misaligned teeth and jaws. As well as enhancing your appearance, teeth straightening can have a positive impact on your dental health.
We provide a variety of orthodontic treatments for patients of all ages, including modern, less noticeable options.
Why is orthodontic treatment necessary?
Straightening teeth has obvious aesthetic benefits, but it can also lead to healthier teeth and gums. Twisted and crooked teeth can create narrow gaps that are difficult to brush and floss effectively, so if teeth are better aligned, they can be easier to keep clean. Badly positioned teeth can also affect the mechanics of eating and may cause speech problems.
Aligning teeth before having crowns, bridges or implants can also be advantageous as less enamel will need removing prior to treatment. We can also use braces to realign teeth that have drifted or become spaced due to gum disease.
What are the options and how do they work?
All orthodontic treatments use gentle forces to gradually move teeth to a new, improved position. We offer a variety of treatments including the following:
These can be conveniently taken out for cleaning, special occasions or playing sports. We can provide fast-acting braces that are designed to move only those teeth that show when you smile, or a series of clear custom-made aligners which, because each one is slightly different, can precisely realign teeth.
These are fixed securely to the teeth but, unlike traditional noticeable metal braces, we offer those with clear brackets and tooth coloured wires. Some of these braces are also known as ‘self-litigating’, which means they have no elastic components, making them easier to keep clean.
These are also fixed but the brackets are attached to the inside surface of the teeth (the lingual surface) and kept well-hidden. The Incognito brace is tailor-made using 3D digital technology, for precise (and discreet) movement of the teeth.
Why choose specialist orthodontic treatment?
By choosing to have specialist orthodontic treatment, you will be benefiting from a combination of relevant experience and specialist knowledge, meaning the treatment process will be more efficient and the results more precise.
We can correctly diagnose any alignment problems for a superior outcome and pick a brace that suits your individual needs. We can also carry out extractions if more space is needed prior to orthodontic treatment.
Picking a specialist can save you time in the long run as it cuts out unnecessary consultations and avoids the need to have any non-specialist work rectified.
